Interlacs SA

Its plant was built with a theoretical capacity of 60,000 tons of cement per year, and the first ton of clinker was produced in 1956.
Due to the political instability of the time, the company operated for a long period at only around 30% of its installed capacity.

After a modest recovery from 1963 to 1973—with a peak production of 39,000 tons in 1973—the company fell into recession again following Zairianization. In 1992, Groupe Georges Forrest International acquired the cement group.

After two years of observation, GFI became actively involved in management starting in 1995. Effective management takeover occurred in 1996, beginning with a major rehabilitation project funded by the main shareholder.

In 2010, HEIDELBERG CEMENT Group joined INTERLACS’ shareholding. Groupe Forrest sold 68% of its shares to Heidelberg, and, in accordance with Article 71(d) of the Congolese Mining Code, 5% of shares were transferred to the State.

Over 70 years of experience

In 2015, Groupe Forrest divested from INTERLACS, selling its 27% stake to HEIDELBERG Group. Later that same year, HEIDELBERG decided to sell the KATANA cement grinding plant to Groupe TAVERNE and also sold 10% of INTERLACS shares to them.

In 2017, by resolution of INTERLACS’ Extraordinary General Assembly on November 30, HEIDELBERG Group transferred 85% of its shares to Groupe TAVERNE, making Groupe TAVERNE the majority shareholder with 95%. The Congolese State retained a 5% stake.
